I don’t know if you, like me experience a certain level of frustration when you go to the shops to buy body oils?  last week I went looking for coconut oil, so I walked into a certain department store.

Usually when I am looking for oils to use topically, I  tend not to go to the  grocery or foodstuff aisle, because most oils that are produced for consumption at times could be refined and stripped of their nutritive content.

So I walked to the beauty and health aisle, went straight to the section that had oils. My eyes then fell on a bottle that was labelled “coconut oil“. Every thing seemed normal except for the fact that I noticed that this “coconut oil” had an unusual colour. Pure coconut oil is clear and colourless, but this oil tended toward a golden colour … a bit like jojoba oil.

There was no other coconut oil on the shelf, so I had to buy this, just hoping that maybe it was an issue of… perhaps a different variety of coconut or something.

But when I got home…. to cut the long story short… it smelt nothing of coconut oil… a bit like palm kernel oil… or something … but not coconut oil.

If you have experienced this, here are a few tips on how to make your own coconut oil at home. Its really easy….

And if you make your own oils… please share your experience with us in the comment box below…. Thank you!

The heat process or the cold process.

For the heat process….. you can then proceed by heating this cream in a heat proof container under medium heat stirring continuously until you the cream turns golden and the oil is extracted…

Then filter off the oil from your cooked cream using a muslin cloth.

From one coconut, I was able to get about 15ml of pure coconut oil.

I will do a blog  on how to make cold process coconut oil very soon… stay tuned!

Next will be …. how to make CARROT OIL!
